Snow stalking for Capercaillie and Black grouse in Sweden is an unforgettable winter hunting adventure! When the snow has fallen, you swap your hunting dogs for your cross country skis! Chasing the biggest grouse species in the world on skis is something really special... It is a magical winter escape where the challenge is way more than just pulling the trigger! This is where you really get to experience the spirit of Swedish lapland... Capercaillie snow stalking is by no means an easy hunt! You should be familiar with cross country skiing, you may have to shoot very far sometimes, and it can be freezing cold!
Hunting Area: You will be hunting in Northern Sweden
Hunting Season: 15 December - 31 January.
Species: Western Capercaillie, Black Grouse, Hazel Grouse, Ptarmigan, Moose.
Accommodation: You can choose to stay in a hotel at the nearest town (You will have your own room with a private bathroom), or at a hunting lodge which usually has other hunters lodges other hunters at the same time. If you have a group of 4 hunters, you may reserve the entire lodge for your private group.
How to get there: The nearest airports to the hunting grounds are Ostersund and Vilhelmina airport (1.5 hours away from the lodge).
Typical Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival to Ostersund OR Vilhelmina Airport. Direct Transfer to the Lodge (1.5-hour drive on average). You will either have lunch or dinner depending on the time of arrival. You will have plenty of time to rest and unwind from travelling.
Days 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6: Start with wake up calls around 8:30 am. After a light breakfast and coffee, you will depart with your guide to the hunting grounds! Days are very short during hunting season, therefore you will have a small window for hunting every day. However, five days should be more than enough to shoot your desired trophies.
Day 7: After some hard earned hunting days, you will have a quick lunch and depart to the airport to catch your return flight home.
