Ever since, we have been fortunate enough to hunt waterfowl in every single province of South Africa! After years of hard hunting, experiencing the good and the bad, we finally found what we believe to be two of the best (not to say the best) duck and goose hunting operations on the Dark Continent, now exclusively available through Huntourage! TRIP SPECIFICS
Location: Most of our waterfowl hunting is done in the provinces of the Eastern Cape and Kwazulu Natal. However, if you would like to shoot more species, we can easily combine your trip with high volume doves, decoyed pigeons, guinea fowl and francolin.
Hunting Season: Waterfowl season begins on May 1st and ends on August 31st. High volume Rock Pigeons and Ring Necked Doves can be hunted from mid February until late April.
Species: Spurwing Goose, Egyptian Goose, Red Billed Teal, Yellow Billed Duck, White Faced Whistling Duck, African Black Duck, African Shelduck, Redwing Partridge, Orange River Partridge, Grey Wing Partridge, Swainnsons Francolin, Helmeted Guinea Fowl, Rock Pigeons and Ring Necked Doves are all on the menu.
Accommodation: Your stay with Huntourage will be in amazing African thatched lodges. Each hunter can stay in his own room with a private bathroom. WiFi is available in most of our lodges.
How to get there: From Johannesburg O.R Tambo International airport to our Free State lodge: 1.5 hours.
From Johannesburg O.R Tambo International Airport to our Kwazulu Natal lodge: 4.5 hours.
A Typical Itinerary:
ARRIVAL DAY:
• Arrive to Johannesburg O.R Tambo International Airport in the early morning to be welcomed by Huntourage® representatives. Transfer from Johannesburg to the hunting area (4 to 5 hours by a comfortable Toyota bus). We can normally schedule an afternoon hunt on our way to the hunting lodge if you choose to be transferred by ground. You can also choose to take a domestic flight to Durban airport then take a private air charter to the hunting area. In any case, we'll make sure your arrival will be as comfortable as possible.
YOUR NEXT 4 TO 5 HUNTING DAYS:
• Over the next 4 or 5 hunting days, you can expect to shoot at least 3 species of Ducks, 2 species of Geese, 3 species of Doves, Rock Pigeons, Driven Guinea fowl and Francolin! You can also choose to hunt African animals such as warthogs, etc. Below is an hour by hour itinerary that will give you a clear idea on how a typical hunting day will look like.
A TYPICAL HUNTING DAY:
• 4:30 AM: Early wake up call. You will have 30 minutes to get dressed and prepare your hunting
• gear for the day.
• 5:00 AM: Light breakfast at the main dining area | Coffee & rusks.
• 5:30 AM: Departure to the hunting area | Distance will vary depending on the species we're after
• on each day.
• 6:00 AM - 6:30 AM: Arrival to hunting area. Morning hunting session begins.
• 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM: Depending on the day's program, you will either have lunch in the field or
• get back to the lodge for a delicious meal.
• 2:00 PM - 2:30 PM: Departure for your afternoon hunting session. You will normally keep
• shooting until dark.
• 6:00 PM: Return to the hunting lodge to shower and have some rest before dinner.
• 8:00 PM: A mouth watering dinner will be served with a nice selection of wine.
After 5 hard earned hunting days, you will have some more time to sleep on your last day. Breakfast will be served around 7:30 AM to 8:00 AM at the lodge, and depending on your flight schedule, you will either have more time to relax and pack your luggage, or immediately depart to catch your return flight back home. We won't be doing any hunting on the last morning unless otherwise planned or requested.

Ducks and Geese numbers were unbelievable. Shotgun barrels have become so hot that we couldn't even touch them! No one could have asked for a better planned or more enjoyable hunt. Huntourage pulled the entire trip off without a hitch. We are already looking forward for our trip next year!
